Actually dust2 will have been more or less like that in the past when it was first made. The orange textures are used (by Valve as well) to make a first outline of a map, without focussing on textures.
Read here:

| Valve usually builds "orange maps" with bare gameplay essentials before actually working on level art and textures. Concentrate on the layout of your level, then apply textures and lighting afterwards. Create the basic map structure using dev textures (type "dev" in the filter box) and big, simple blocks. For a Counter-Strike map, place some spawn points, some buyzones and some bombsites. No stairs, just ramps. |

Only cause it's the default map the server is running on and I can't change that, being as it is not a dedicated server. (If the server is restarted, the server starts on de_dust2.) de_dust2 is not a good map for gungame. |

Think it is, thats why it's "only" 16 slots. |

Yea - It's a rented server.. We got a pretty good deal on it though. Rent for 6 months, get 1 month free, free upgrade from 33 to 66 tick and free debranding. |

Yeah, I've made a few texture maps myself, although they sucked. I have seen people use alternate colors as well, pink and blue instead of orange and grey for example. Mapping is actually fairly fun if you can get the hang of it. |

Yea - It can be fun, but time-consuming.. You should check out the gg map I map recently gg_coldworld_beta1 on our gg server.
It's no where near done yet though (It snows inside.. doh!)
Your scrap-yard one is still on there also btw. |

Depends on the map.. Obviously on the 24/7 d2 server it's not possible, but if we get a gungame server again and you create a good gungame map, that would be very welcome. |
