Since this isnt shown on the news site anymore, thought I'd just post it here to let everyone still be able to enjoy a higher framerate
So... robbing that old lady did not work out very well since she managed to pwn u with kung fu, and you woke up next day in a room full of men in leather suits? Errrm... Anyway, to get a higher FPS in CS:S you dont need 10k to get an expensive Alienware PC (www.alienware.com).
You can try overclocking your hardware but thats not recommended, more safe and useful is getting an FPS tweak config. Such a config will simply tweak/lower your CS:S configuration settings, varying from lowering your model detail to disabling non-usefull stuff like rain or even ragdoll physics.
I am testing a config which I got from some Counter-Strike forum and I must say the results are impressive.
To start, download the config from here: www.livebythegun.com/uploads/autoexec.rar
1. Open the compressed folder
2. Extract the file within the folder (autoexec.cfg) to 'X:\steam\steamapps\account_name\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg'
(Replace 'X' with the right drive letter, replace 'account_name' with your own Steam Account Name.)
If theres already an autoexec in that folder (most likely not), choose to overwrite it.
3. Start your game
4. Enjoy your higher FPS
Average FPS gain at my PC was about 40-50
The tested PC contains the following hardware
nVidia 6600GT
AMD 64 3200+
1 GB RAM
With all settings on high without the config I get about 25-30 FPS. With config installed I get about 55-70 which plays much better.
Results are tested on de_dust2 and de_dust, if you still don't get higher FPS from this, or not enough, try tweaking your graphics settings, like texture detail and resolution etc.
The rates settings in the config are tweaked by me and by that way optimized for use on the LBTG servers.
Credits go to whoever created this config , I got it from http://forum.counter-strike.nl/showthread.php?t=26627
Note for users that get scared when installed this: It will decrease your graphics visually if your used to playing on high settings. Dont be afraid, youll get used to it very soon. |

On the other hand, I removed it.
It's nice for boosting your fps massively, but somehow it doesn't really help me playing better |

Shame it didnt help u ;(
Hey bullit you need wordpad indeed, just choose wordpad as the program to open the .cfg file with. By the way if you dont want everyone to be the same skin (its a minor fps improvement if turned off), just change cl_minmodels 1 to cl_minmodels 0, cl_min_t 1 to cl_min_t 0 and cl_min_ct 1 to cl_min_ct 0 in your config. Use ctrl+f to find and replace the sentences. |

Didn't have much of a positive effect on mine - I was already doing about 100 fps and it just added another 5 or 10 and made the graphics a lot worse. I'm sure it would've been a lot more helpful with a worse computer though. |

It's not really intended for high-end PC's no. 100 fps is good already. |

cl_ragdoll_physics_enable "0" to cl_ragdoll_physics_enable "1" (in your autoexec.cfg, not ingame! it will change it back automatically, use CTRL+F in Wordpad to find)
But I wouldnt do that personally. You get used to it very soon and, removing the physics is a major FPS improvement thing. |

Sorry zulu, but you dont have a clue what your talking about.
On a crap PC it will even crap it more? You obviously dont know what its like to play with a low fps, it's really hard to play normally. It does make your graphics worse, but that's what you'll have to sacrifice. You'll get used to it very soon tho. Come back and talk when you have played CSS on a bad PC with 20 fps. |

Not everyone has the money to buy a high-end PC, that's why configs like this exist. |
