Hi all. A while ago I heard from people that they were experiencing lag while playing, and I used to have this too. I do not say this little tutorial I created will entirely remove the lag but it may be useful and it helped me out.
Playing counter-strike: source with graphics settings set in your driver options
Note: this is done with an nVidia graphics card using one of the latest forceware drivers. People with ATI cards can look here but they may need to perform other things to get the right options
Ok, thats nice but how do you set that?
First of all, rightclick on your desktop and choose properties:
Next: click on Settings, and then Advanced:
Once your in the 'Advanced' menu, click on the sub-menu called 'GeForce xxxxXX' this depends on the card you have, it could be 'GeForce 6600GT' or 'GeForce 7800GTX'.
Now click on 'Performance & Quality Settings':
Within the settings, there are 2 settings called 'Antialiasing settings' and 'Anisotropic filtering'. Below theres a box called 'Application-controlled'.
If this box is ticked, un-tick it.
Now onto configuring the settings. If you have a graphics card in the nVidia 6-series I'd recommend putting both settings on 2x or 2xQ.
This is not too high and it wont cause any trouble for your card, it also still offers good quality graphics and a pretty decent fps (around 50).
If you have a graphics card in the nVidia 7-series, you can easily set it to 4x or more. I have not experienced with this cause I dont have such a card, but I know from the specs I've seen that from 7800 and up it are really decent cards who can handle a lot. Try experimenting with this, this also counts for the new 8-series which you should figure out yourself if you have such a card. I dont have any experience with those.
The most important thing: set your anti-aliasing mode in CS:S to None and your Filtering mode to Trilinear
WARNING: if you experience any lag in other games, set the AA and AF back to Application-controlled, when playing CSS set it to how I described
A few more tips to solve lag:
-Try disabling your virus-scanner (note that this brings a potential risk)
-Set your Anti-virus software to update once your idle and not just when it likes to, so it updates while your gaming.
-Disable any P2P software like Limewire.
-Check windows taskmanager for processes which use a lot of memory and are not essential to keep your system running, disable what you dont need.
This is all for now, I hope you guys can use this.

Nice tutorial. Its not working on my old pc so i guess it ain't working on every pc. Again lag can be fixed by buying more RAM and a better CPU; that cost money too lol so if this is working then ist cheap doh

Yep, lag can be solved by a new CPU and new RAM. But your graphics card has restrictions too. Some people set AA and AF in both driver settings and ingame graphics options too high. Their cards cant handle it, its a problem I had to deal with before aswell. I think this are the most ideal settings for the 6 and up series. |

Yes you are right too, and in ATi catalyst center it seems alot easier. You can just do "Program controlled" and it do by it self ^^ lol dunno |
