Today while doing some random browsing, I stumbled accross this very cool looking product called VirtuSphere. The VirtuSphere is a virtual reality device, that allows you to walk through a virtual environment.
How does it work?
The VirtuSphere consists of a large hollow sphere, placed on a base that allows it to rotate in any direction. It is fitted with sensors that monitor the movements of the person using it and comes with a virtual reality headset that detects 360 degree motion. This means you can literally walk, run, crawl through a virtual environment without boundaries. The future of gaming?
Although the VirtuSphere is already commercially available, don't expect to have it in your living room anytime soon, unless you are willing and able to fork out between $50.000 and $100.000 for it. However, once they start mass production for the product, this price is bound to drop and will eventually (hopefully for us) be affordable for consumers. If you ask me, this is definately the future of gaming. Can you imagine running through dust2 with a big m4? I know I definitely can.
Of course there is also downsides to this device. I doubt it's suitable for people who suffer from claustrophobia. The first thing Trinity said when I showed her this, was: "I'd feel like a hamster in that thing." lol
I guess it is a bit like that, but look on the bright side; At least the stereotype of chubby gamer kids will become untrue, as they will get a work out while playing their favourite FPS.
