Gaming » A report on the E3 part II

Posted by: |LBTG|xGj

Finally having slept a bit, I'll write the second part of the report on the E3 now, which is hopefully quite a lot longer than the first one. I'm gonna continue with the promising games, but I'll look at it a bit more in depth.

Halo Wars

This is not Halo 3, it's the first RTS set in the Halo universe. Halo Wars places the player in command of the human forces, battling the Aliens. The game takes place twenty years before the events of the first Halo game, and so it is mankind's first encounter with the Covenant (aliens). Halo Wars will be an RTS for the Xbox 360, which seems not really unique anymore these days (Tom Clancy's Endwar, C&C:3, LOTR etc..) but nonetheless a very promising title. The first thing the team behind HW wanted to do, was make the game good controllable on the console. Hovering the cursor over a group of units and pressing A selects the group, for instance, and by pressing X you can send them to any point. The A and X combo is used throughout the entire game, it seems a very simple technique for controlling your units with a gamepad. You can also double tap the same button, to select every unit currently on screen.

Haze

Haze looks just awesome. The yellow masks you see everywhere are not just meant for the show, but they have a gameplay functionality.
In Haze you play as a rebel, and the game focuses itself around drugs, called Nectar. Your Nectar helmet and suit gives special abilities but when enemy units drop Nectar bomb you can get disorientated, and even start shooting at teammates uncontrolled. As a rebel you can increase your gun collection pretty easily by stealing from your enemies. In the games teaser trailer is shown that if youre close to a bumblebee (your enemy) you can rip the gun from his hands, flip it and fire it in a cat-quick series of hand tricks. If you manage to get a shot just right and nail a bumblebee's Nectar feed, expect them to go berserk, firing on friend or foe in a rage as their yellow armor panels go to crimson red. And if you spend a few precious seconds over a dead bumblebee, you can harvest their leftover Nectar to cobble together a "Nectar grenade."
